The character of La Fuga Chardonnay La Fuga, from Chardonnay grown in the hills of western Sicily, is a high-caliber wine. Typical scents of exotic fruit and elegantly mineral notes are followed by a taste that's splendid for sapidity and freshness.

Given August's sweltering heat, the ideal time to pick the grapes is fleeting. And in 1998 Donnafugata decided to harvest the Chardonnay at night, protecting it from the heat of day in unresting flight to bring the grapes to the cellar with their aromas intact.

If you wish to drink this wine beneath the stars, every year on August 10 Donnafugata opens its vineyards and cellar to the public, participating in "Goblets of Stars", the traditional event promoted by the Wine Tourism Movement.

The story behind the La Fuga label Strength of spirit and inner freedom are needed to "escape". In this story Gabriella Anca Rallo defied conventions and in 1994, the year La Fuga was first made, proposed a label that was much discussed.

A pensive woman, gazing towards infinity, with wind-blown hair and a rainbow of colors presaging the wine's bouquet. The ocher background is emblematic of Sicily, land of sun.

Gabriella Anca Rallo's femininity and imagination can be found on most of the winery's labels, which she inspired or personally designed in a profound identification with Donnafugata - and this label marvelously confirms it.
