IL VINO DELL’ANNO - Il Passito di Pantelleria è forse il vino dolce più famoso oggi in Italia: più o meno, lo conoscono un po’ tutti, anche coloro che non sono intenditori di vino. Purtroppo, non tutti sono buonissimi. Il Ben Ryé invece è sempre stato un grande vino, ma le ultime due annate, lo ’06 e il ’07 sono di un livello superiore agli altri. Questo ’07 è ancora più ricco e grasso del precedente (rivela chiaramente una percentuale più alta di uva appassita nella sua composizione) ma mantiene una eleganza fuori dal comune. Lunghissimo e setoso, la famiglia Rallo merita gli elogi di tutti gli appassionati per l’abnegazione, la passione e la volontà nel proporre ai vertici un vino che è non solo tra i migliori d’Italia ma del mondo. Un merito doppio, perché chi conosce Pantelleria sa bene quanto sia difficile lavorare la terra lì e quanto poco sia remunerativo il Moscato Passito in confronto ad altri vini, più facili da produrre. |

WINE OF THE YEAR - The Passito di Pantelleria is perhaps Italy’s best known sweet wine made from air dried grapes, but unfortunately most examples that people try are poor, when not downright bad. The Ben Ryé is a stellar wine, with the ’06 and ’07 bottlings the best ever. The ’07 is a much richer, sweeter wine as opposed to the ’06, clearly revealing a higher percentage of air dried grapes used: nonetheless, it maintains amazing freshness and refinement. Compliments to the Rallo family for their hard work, dedication and passion, as working Pantelleria’s rocky, steep terrains is anything but easy. The Rallos could easily devote their efforts to other wines and grapes that are far easier and less costly to produce. |
