Vivid golden yellow. Brooding nose opens slowly with aeration to offer Zibibbo-typical aromas of candied apricot, raisins, date syrup, crystallized ginger, sweet botanical herbs and a complicating hint of hazelnut. Very rich and suave in the mouth, with flavors of dates, raisins and honeyed white chocolate; there’s just enough acidity here to provide lift and prevent the wine from coming across as overly sweet or flabby. Finishes velvety, suave and long. This is a standout sweet wine, but it strikes me as having less lift than the 2013 release, despite having 7.8 grams per liter of total acidity to buffer its 200 grams of residual sugar.
