The Sicily of beauty and wine in the spotlight. Donnafugata’s wines featured in the menus for the summit’s leaders.
Donnafugata will be present with its wines at the G7, which begins tomorrow in Taormina, Sicily. The summit of Heads of State and Government of the major industrialised countries – Italy, the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom – will be held in one of the most beautiful and evocative places with breathtaking sea views: Taormina Bay and Mount Etna.
San Domenico Palace, the extraordinary hotel in the heart of this Sicilian town, located in an ancient Dominican monastery, will be the seat of the main summit sessions; here, for aperitif and working lunch of May 26th and 27th, Donnafugata features its Brut Metodo Classico, Lighea, Tancredi and Ben Ryé. The wines will be paired with the dishes of chef Massimo Mantarro who with the restaurant of the hotel, Principe Cerami, has already earned two Michelin stars.
For the dinner on May 26th, the leaders will be hosted by the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella at the Grand Hotel Timeo, the charming hotel next to the Greek Theater: one of the most precious testimonies of the ancient Sicily and symbol of Taormina which is depicted on this G7’s logo.
Top secret are the details on the menu by Roberto Toro, young chef of the Timeo. Among the four wines that will be served at the table of Heads of State and Government, Donnafugata has the honour to propose its iconic wines: Mille e una Notte and Ben Ryé. The vintages will be, 2012 for the red, symbol of Italian excellence, and 2015 for the Passito di Pantelleria, one of the most appreciated sweet wines in the world.
“This selection makes us proud – says Antonio Rallo, winemaker of the family business – we hope it will render the atmosphere of the summit even more special.”
“Tomorrow I will be at the Greek Theater of Taormina on occasion of the Scala Philharmonic Orchestra concert, desired by the Italian Government in honour of the leaders and their delegations. – declares José Rallo – It will be a great emotion to think of the Sicily of beauty and wine in the spotlight of the world.”
