Fragore 2018 Etna Rosso Doc – Contrada Montelaguardia\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n

James Suckling 97\/100<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I love the enveloping fragrance<\/strong> of this Etna red, as much as the breathtaking silkiness<\/strong> on the very concentrated palate. Starts with a blast of red berries, but as it flows over the palate, it slowly turns in a totally Mediterranean direction. Notes of capers<\/strong> and wild mountain herbs at the staggeringly long finish. Still slightly tight, so try to be patient. Drinkable now, but best from 2023.<\/p>\n

Decanter 94\/100<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Montelaguardia contrada (4ha at 730m altitude) is protected by forests from climatic extremes and is milder than the Marchesa contrada (Donnafugata’s other Etna cru wine). Production is tiny: just over 3,000 bottles and 51 magnums. The wine, 100% Nerello Mascalese, is aged in second- and third-use French oak for 14 months, before a further 18 months bottle ageing. 2018 was a cooler, rainier than average vintage on Etna, and\u00a0the wine has great freshness<\/strong> and energy<\/strong>,\u00a0with dark fruit<\/strong> character (blackberries and forest fruits) and a sous bois dimension. A twist of black pepper too.\u00a0It’s mineral<\/strong>, structured<\/strong> and has tannic grip<\/strong>, complementing the perfumed finesse.\u00a0Would be a great match for pheasant and other game, or Peking duck.\u00a0Drinking Window\u00a02021\u00a0–\u00a02028<\/p>\n

Mille e una Notte 2017 – Sicilia Doc\"\"<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/h5>\n

“The enticing nose of blackcurrant<\/strong>, blackberry<\/strong>, cardamon<\/strong> and anise with hints of old balsamic vinegar<\/strong> and smoke, pulls you into this very Mediterranean red. In spite of the serious tannin structure and rather dry palate, it’s beautifully proportioned<\/strong>. Complex dried-lemon and caper character at the long, precise finish<\/strong>. Drinkable now, but best from 2023.”<\/p>\n

“Dunkel leuchtendes, elegantes Rubinrot. In der Nase nach vielen reifen dunklen Beeren, unterlegt von zartem W\u00fcrzeton, ein Hauch Edelholz und Milchschokolade runden das Bukett ab. Am Gaumen sehr saftig mit strahlender Frucht, gest\u00fctzt von griffigem Tannin<\/strong>, balsamisch-mineralischer<\/strong> Touch, leicht erdig, im Nachhall mit Druck, gute L\u00e4nge.”<\/p>\n

“Rich and waxy notes of dried orange<\/strong>, cremehttp:\/\/donna-fugata-old.ssnt.xdev\/it\/i-vini\/ben-rye\/ caramel,<\/strong> dried banana, marmalade and mango. Enticing<\/strong> with an explosion of ripe fruit<\/strong> on the palate, luscious with a vibrant<\/strong> balanced acidity.”<\/p>\n

Spannt am Gaumen ein gro\u00dfes Kleid auf, extrem vielschichtig, mit saftigem Spiel, reife gelbe Frucht, edel anmutend, mundf\u00fcllend, trotzdem sehr ausgewogen im Verlauf mit langem, ausdrucksstarkem Finale.”<\/p>\n
