SUSTAINABILITY

To respect nature

Our bottle and packaging choices

Every detail matters. For this reason, Donnafugata has long been committed to making its bottles and packaging increasingly sustainable, reducing environmental impact throughout the supply chain and embracing a circular approach. For some of its wines, Donnafugata uses the lightweight “Cento per Cento Sicilia” (“100% Sicilian”) bottles, produced exclusively on the island using recycled Sicilian glass, according to a circular economy model promoted by Fondazione SOStain Sicilia and the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Doc Sicilia, and implemented by O-I Glass.

In recent years, the company has progressively replaced a large proportion of traditional 550 g bottles with lightweight 410 g bottles and, more recently, even lighter 360 g bottles, helping to reduce CO2 emissions during both production and transport.

Bottle closures also reflect this evolution. In 2023, Donnafugata became the first company in the world to introduce the Nomacorc Ocean closure, made from recycled plastic collected in coastal areas at risk of marine pollution.

This journey extends beyond Italy, with solutions designed to reduce the transport footprint in export markets, as well as FSC-certified cartons that support responsible forest management.

Through these choices, Donnafugata continues to view sustainability as the sum of many practical actions, transforming innovation into respect for nature.
