Vinitaly, Donnafugata toasts with Frappato and looks to future

Novelties and confirmations for the winery at the first Vinitaly without the founder Giacomo Rallo. In Verona, the first fruit of the investments in eastern Sicily, the Frappato di Vittoria “Bell’Assai”. The new label will be autographed by its author Stefano Vitale.

At the stand, tasting of historic vintages of top wines Chiarandà, Tancredi, Ben Ryé and Mille e una Notte that will be at Opera Wine by Wine Spectator with the 2008 vintage.

At the first Vinitaly without its founder Giacomo Rallo, the winery now run by his children José and Antonio presents an important novelty, the debut wine of the production project with which it has been in eastern Sicily since the 2016 harvest: it is Bell’Assai, Frappato di Vittoria DOC. A wine with striking freshness and soft tannins, a fragrant red that amazes with its immediate pleasantness.

The name Bell’Assai is that of the girl depicted on the artistic label, inspired by Gabriella Rallo and designed by Stefano Vitale, a label that wants to celebrate the love for the beautiful. Because of the special bond between Stefano Vitale and Donnafugata, on Sunday 9 April the artist will be at the winery’s stand to autograph copies of the label of Bell’Assai for wine lovers and collectors attending the fair.

Donnafugata’s entire production will obviously be presented at the Verona kermis. A range of wines distinguished by pleasantness and complexity and that are the fruit of the territories of Contessa Entellina and Pantelleria, and for the first time, also Vittoria. To taste the wines of Etna, the other territory where Donnafugata launched its commitment with the 2016 harvest, you have to wait instead until next year when the aging processes of these products have finished.

Great expectations also for the tasting of some vintages now no longer on the market, taken from the historic reserves of the winery for special occasions such as Vinitaly: therefore you can taste the 1996 and 2007 of the white Chiarandà, 1998 and 2005 of the red Tancredi and the 2008 limited edition of Ben Ryé Passito di Pantelleria.

The 1996 and 2008 of Mille e una Notte – another testimonial of extraordinary longevity – can be tasted; the latter is also the vintage selected by Wine Spectator for Opera Wine, the event that showcases the best Italian wines, organized by the American magazine in collaboration with Vinitaly, that will take place on Saturday 8 April at Palazzo della Gran Guardia.

There will also be the sweet and original creations of Paola and Fabio Bergaglio of Bodrato Cioccolato, paired with the icon wines Mille e una Notte and Ben Ryé.

Those who cannot come to Verona can follow the highlights of Vinitaly on the winery’s social channels: on the DonnafugataWine facebook profile there will be several live broadcasts that see the participation of Antonio and José Rallo with Andrea Lo Cicero, Sicilian DOC and Donnafugata fan, former national rugby player and now a well-known television presenter, and Fede & Tinto, the voices and faces of POP enogastronomy, as they like to define themselves.

Donnafugata is at Pavilion 2 Sicily, D67/E70.
