Again this year the Gambero Rosso Guide to Italian Wines gave TRE BICCHIERI (Three Glasses) to MILLE E UNA NOTTE. It was the 2006 vintage of the winery’s top red to be so highly rated, and it will receive the award on October 18 in Rome, at the Parco della Musica, with an afternoon tasting at Gambero Rosso’s Città del Gusto (www.gamberorosso.it).
A special “ETICHETTA” (label) for exceptional price/quality ratio and a retail price within 10 euros went instead to the SEDARA 2008. This was assigned by Slow Food’s Guide to Daily Drinking (Guida al Bere Quotidiano) and will be presented at the Turin Wine Show at the Lingotto expo complex on October 25 (opening at 10:30 a.m.). The 2008 BEN RYE came in 2nd among sweet wines in Luca Maroni’s Best Italian Wines Yearbook (Annuario dei Migliori Vini Italiani): the award ceremony will be held on November 20 in Rome at the Parco della Musica Auditorium (www.lucamaroni.com).
The “son of the wind” Passito di Pantelleria once again – and this is the tenth time in 10 years – rated “5 GRAPPOLI” (5 Bunches) in the Bibenda-AIS Duemilavini Guide; the award ceremony will take place on November 9 at the Hotel Rome Cavalieri in Rome (www.bibenda.it).
