The new vintage best reflects the idea of complexity and elegance that Donnafugata has been dreaming of for its great red wine
The Mille e una Notte di Donnafugata, 2008 vintage, is a source of pride for the company because it best represents the complexity and elegance that distinguish, since its first vintage, 1995, this great red wine.
Scrolling through the notes of 2008, we talked about a 5 star harvest, especially for the red grapes such as Nero d’Avola, prince of the autochthonous Sicilian varieties, the predominant variety in Mille e una Notte. A year with less rain and slightly higher temperatures, without excessive peaks. In late August, 43 mm of rain and and cooler temperatures allowed the vines to not suffer water stress and to continue the ripening processes in the best way possible. The yield in the vineyard, thanks to thinning, as usual, was very low: 800 gr. per plant.
“It’s the grape we harvest at the end of an intense year of work that makes all the difference, we must trace all our thoughts back there to find the origin of the quality – Antonio Rallo tells us with a smile -. Quality is created in the vineyard, then the work in the cellar must preserve what nature has given us. And this 2008 will be a vintage to remember: exemplary for Mille e una Notte”.
In the glass, Mille e una Notte 2008 offers a round bouquet, with an array of aromas that range from spicy to fruity. Ample and complex, with caressing tannins, it can evolve positively for at least 15 more years.
“In my opinion 2008 is, to date, the best vintage – Antonio continues – and the quality of those previous ones testifies the development of that project that my father and Giacomo Tachis had imagined from the very beginning. The pursuit of excellence is a path that you reach harvest after harvest, in a crescendo of technical awareness and knowledge: it is not a result that cannot be improved”.
Mille e una Notte is one of the wines that are the symbol of Donnafugata. An elegant interpretation of the area that contributes to the image of Sicilian wine in the world. It owes its name to Gabriella Anca Rallo who revolutionizes the rules of time and creates an avant-garde label, capturing the charm of “Le Mille e una Notte” (One Thousand and One Nights) in a starry Oriental sky that embraces the Palace of Donnafugata. Place of some scenes of the Gattopardo and favourite residence of its author Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. Mille e una Notte is a wine that loves literature, and also music. To enjoy all its nuances you can pair it with the notes of a jazz ballad or Chopin nocturnes. The wine and food pairing ranges from elaborate dishes based on red meat, pork or lamb, to tasty baked or stewed fish, without forgetting quality dark chocolate.
A wine, with an internationally recognizable personality, that recounts passion, strength and production consistency. An image of a tale and a sky from “Mille e una Notte”, full of stars and full of promise
