A multi-sensory experience of wine, music and literature.
At the MiWine exposition in Milan, Donnafugata will be staging a “Journey to Donnafugata,” an excursion among great red wines, Angheli, Tancredi and Mille e una Notte and music, jazz, accompanied by a narrator. It will be a highly special tasting that involves all the senses, a round of sensations related to wine, music and literature that concludes with the tasting of a chocolate flavored with hot red pepper and accompanied by Mille e una Notte, the inspired creation of maître chocolatier Ernst Knam.
The effect is intriguing. A unity is created in terms of aromas, musical notes and literary and film excerpts that, in combination, breathe life into a full and engrossing multi-sensory experience.
“The encounter with a great wine,” explained José Rallo, the Donnafugata estate’s owner, “deserves all the attention of our senses and our objective, achieved through the music and the narration, is precisely that of provoking those senses, suggesting images, sounds and memories that help us to understand among the thousand facets of a wine the notes of the territory, in this case, the Sicily, we love. An occasion out of the ordinary for consumption in which red wines with big structures can be sipped and savored in a personal and intimate way. They are wines that can keep us company as we listen to the music, read a book we like or simply kick back and relax.”
Love of the territory has led Donnafugata, following in the footsteps of the Gattopardo (Leopard), to suggest to Salvatore Bonafede that he rewrite in a jazz key the music composed by Nino Rota for Luchino Visconti’s film. The result is “Journey to Donnafugata,” with Enrico Rava on trumpet along with leading figures in contemporary jazz.
Donnafugata also sponsors the International Literary Prize dedicated to Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, author of The Leopard. The award went last year to Abraham Yehoshua, a major luminary of literature. It appears that this year’s award will arouse as much interest and generate as much satisfaction.
At MiWine (Fiera di Milano – Pavilion 15 – Stand F 13) as an absolute first, the musical tasting of Donnafugata from June 14 through 16.
