Contesa dei Venti 2020, with its ruby red color, shows a fragrant bouquet with notes of red fruits (plum and cherry) and flowers, such as lavender and violet, together with balsamic hints (juniper) and sweet spices (white pepper). On the palate it is fresh and harmonious, with a pleasant return of fruity notes and a gentle and enveloping and soft tannin; its ending is soft and persistent.

In the lands of the Baroque
Between the Hyblaean mountains and the sea
In southeastern Sicily, in Vittoria, we chose a territory with excellent potential that includes the first and only DOCG in Sicily: Cerasuolo di Vittoria. In this area, the soils are of medium texture, tending to sandy with limestone tuffs. The winery, in the Dirillo River valley is surrounded by honey-colored rocks, which is perfectly integrated into the landscape.

The dialogue between the sea and the Hyblaean mountains
The climate at Vittoria is typically Mediterranean, with a warm temperate and quite windy even in summer. The vineyards benefit from cool “thermal breezes” with a great air temperature variation between the day and the night. The vineyards are arranged along the line of the valley in order to follow the direction of the winds, which blow from the Hyblaean plateau towards the sea by caressing the grapes.

At Vittoria, Donnafugata cultivates two native varieties: Nero d'Avola, king of the Sicilian red grape varieties, and Frappato, one of the oldest Sicilian varieties. The wines of this area are fragrant and floral, they have smooth tannins and are extremely pleasant. Unusual red wines, to be tried chilled, which are surprisingly quite versatile.

A label with intense colors that speak of red plums and lavender. A woman, Contesa dei Venti, which investigates the distance, letting herself be caressed and playing sweetly with the wind. The name of this wine takes its cue from the pleasant breeze that is always present in the Vittoria area and blows among the Nero d’Avola grapes at night as during the day. A light wind that comes from the dialogue between the sea and the Hyblaean mountains.
