Cantine Aperte, one of the Italian wine world’s most appealing events, will again include Donnafugata. On Sunday, May 27th, the Sicilian winery will welcome wine-lovers into its historic Marsala cellars from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The program offers a guided tour of the winery and, in particular, of the underground barrique cellar where some of Donnafugata wines mature in barrels.
The elegant Sala delle Botti will be transformed into a wine-bar: a relaxed and informal location where you can taste 2011 Lighea, dry version of Zibibbo from Pantelleria, and 2011 Sherazade, crisp and fruity interpretation of Nero d’Avola, both paired with lounge music.
Under the great marquee, overlooking the baglio courtyard, there will be a tasting of all the other Donnafugata wines ending in an entertaining challenge: “What’s the label? Test your inner enologist!”, a blind tasting in which contestants will have to identify 5 wines. Winners will be awarded the title of “DOC Enologist-Donnafugata”.
Interactive stations will be set up to let you write to your favorite wine a Dedication of Heart (published after the event on our web site) and to be immortalized in the photography set for “a postcard from Cantine Aperte@Donnafugata”, to be posted on the new Facebook page.
There will be fun entertainment for children (ages 4 to 12), traditionally included in this festive day with laboratories on drawings and cork stoppers.
Those willing to immerse in eno-gastronomic publications will have the possibility to flip through the volumes of the readers corner offered by Mondadori’s bookshop. Among the titles, also the last book of Licia Granello, “Il gusto delle donne” (Women’s taste), with a chapter dedicated to José Rallo, co-owner of Donnafugata.
During this edition of Cantine Aperte, Donnafugata also promotes culture with an initiative devoted to the Tapestries Museum of Marsala: included in the tasting ticket there will be a free pass to visit this city museum where to admire 8 splendid Flemish tapestries.
100 Tappi e Stappi goes on: participants bringing 100 bottle corks during the day will receive a free bottle of La Fuga.
The event is a nationwide one, now in its 20th edition, and therefore an enticing occasion for discovering or rediscovering the places and people creating Italy’s great wines (www.movimentoturismovino.it).
