We have been committed to quality certification for years: a path started in 2000 that has led us to continuous improvement through adherence to European, international standards and protocols in order to pursue the highest standards for environmental protection, the use of natural resources and the consumer protection.
Donnafugata has been committed to the sphere of quality certifications for years. In 2000 the production rules are collected in a Quality System that obtains the first certification: the UNI EN ISO 9001. In 2004 the Integrated Quality and Environment Management System is created, Donnafugata is certified according to the UNI EN ISO 14001 standard and, in 2006, completes the path towards EMAS in order to communicate its environmental performances to the public. In 2011 it adopts GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) and extends the Quality and Environment Management System to the vineyards. This leads Donnafugata to the ISO 22000 certification for Food Safety Management System.
In 2018 Donnafugata obtaines the ISO 50001 certification that proves the company’s commitment to pursue energy efficiency: for more information about the Donnafugata Energy Policies please visit the following link. Since 2011 Donnafugata calculates the Carbon Footprint of the wines of Contessa Entellina and Pantelleria and since 2019 the Water Footprint of the Marsala Historical Cellars in order to safeguard the environment and rationalize the use of natural resources.
In 2021, Donnafugata strengthened its commitment to Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance Sustainability in line with the framework and objectives of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and joins the Fondazione SOStain Sicilia.
The SOStain specifications foresee 10 minimum requirements, including VIVA certification, promoted by the Ministry of Ecological Transition to measure and improve the sustainability performance of the Italian wine industry. This regulation foresees the calculation of 4 highly significant indicators: AIR (carbon footprint); WATER (water footprint); VINEYARD (impact on soil and water reserves of the agronomic management of vineyards) and TERRITORY (analysis of the link between wine and its territory. The SOStain logo is visible on our bottle, combined with a Qrcode, to consult the sustainability performance achieved by Donnafugata.
