Fragore
The Etna cru, volcanic elegance
Vittoria

Fragore

Vintage 2018

Change vintage

Fragore 2018, ruby red colored, offers an ample and deep bouquet with notes of wild blackberry and forest floor that blend with balsamic, mineral (flint) and tobacco nuances. Due to its complexity and structure with important tannins, together with its remarkable persistence, this cru from Contrada Montelaguardia is an authentic expression of volcanic energy.

On the highest active volcano in Europe

Where volcanic and Mediterranean wines come from

Our vineyards are located on the northern slope of Etna, between 730 m and 750 m a.s.l., an area characterized by little rainfall and cool and breezy summers, which contributes to producing healthy grapes.

The sciare

Footprints of history imprinted on the wines

With its eruptions, Etna produces sciaras, lava flows which, through long physico-chemical processes, give life to fertile and cultivable soils. Each sciara gives specific characteristics to the soil, making the wines from this micro-territory unique. The two crus, Fragore Contrada Montelaguardia and Contrada Marchesa Etna Rosso DOC, come from old vines that have thrust their roots down into very ancient lava flows.

The powerful cru, an icon of Etna

Complex and memorable red, with an explosive end

Fragore originates in Contrada Montelaguardia, from the interaction among ancient lava flows, a mild climate, and vineyards that are part Etnean alberello and part espalier. A careful selection of hand-picked grapes is followed by a further selection of perfectly ripe bunches and grapes on the vibrating table. Fermented in steel with maceration on the skins for 10-12 days at a temperature of 25°C, it ages for 14 months in French oak and for at least 16 months in bottles.

Fragore

Donnafugata is “projected” towards the future, like an object launched into space, attracted by invisible gravities. Illustrator Stefano Vitale captures this perpetual motion perfectly in the latest label of Fragore that represents the volcano’s roar. Donnafugata continues its journey towards the most remote corners of Sicily: east to Vittoria and then up to the highest point on the island, on the Etna volcano.
